A 'No, they aren't a waste of selling time. A salesman has to know about company policy in order to sell effectively.'

  D 'I can see you might think that, Richard. But there are always parts of a job that we don't like. However, since you have such a good sales record in this team I'm willing to let you miss all except the most important meetings.'
