Mike Powell says to Harry: 'Excuse me. I don't know if you've seen the notice, but there's no smoking in this office, I'm afraid. So would you put out your cigarette please.' Harry puts out his cigarette, looking a little annoyed. Shortly afterwards, when Mike has left the room for a few minutes, Harry comes over to you, lights a cigarette, and asks you if Mike is under some sort of strain. What do you say? |
|
| A 'Mike is very much against smoking because his wife died not long ago from lung cancer. I've managed to give up and we'd both be grateful if you could smoke outside the office.' | ||
| B 'Yes, he is under strain at the moment. His wife died not long ago from lung cancer. I'm sure you understand. But, don't worry, I expect he'll get over it soon and quieten down about smoking.' | ||
| C 'Yes, I'm afraid he is. His wife died from lung cancer and he persuaded me to give up smoking too. I haven't had a cigarette in six months, actually. You couldn't let me have one of yours, could you?' |
