Reg Collins

5.

Unfortunately, Paul does not give you a few months. Two weeks later he tells you he wants a reference for another job. You try to explain that you think he will get on very well in his present job if he gives it more time, but he is not really listening. He leaves in six weeks to lecture on 'management methods' in a university in the North.

Well, he just wasn't the right type for the job, was he? He was one of those people who prefer to talk about how a job should be done rather than get on and do it. And your department does not need people like that. Or does it? You will get another graduate trainee in a few weeks. Will he be different? Will Reg react differently? If you think it could be interesting to try again, go back to the beginning of this maze and re-think the decisions you made. Or talk about your own career. Have you ever felt that you were not appreciated? If so, what did you do about it?
